Charlie and the company
I am Charlie Gibson, a British Director from Ken (innit)t, currently residing in Hampshire while finishing my studies at the University of Winchester (23-26) and the university of Bournemouth (26-27). please don't read this next bit like a CV; So far I have achieved 85% First class grades and I am predicted a first overall. I have been offered a placement and an academic achievement scholarship from Bournemouth film production MA.
Picture Old House is an alias for the work I do with a rolling team of over a dozen collaborators, a network I have developed around the mid Hampshire area over the last three years.
Aside from uni, I have worked on multiple successful external projects. These include corporate live-streamed interviews with international clients, directing an independent YouTube series written by industry professionals (gaining over one million views), as well as co-creating a feature folk thriller directed by independent filmmaker Ben James to which we miserably took all the way to Cannes.
But who actually am I? Growing up in Kent, I had my fair share of experience; the obvious birthdays, showers, family meals, broken family meals, dogs, seasides, doodling, a sprinkle of gang violence. You know, a balanced childhood.
At 18, I spent most nights working in retail 9pm-7am where I was willingly locked in a building at the end of an industrial estate. Listening to thousands of cumulative hours of stories, conspiracies, music, and interviews. This lasted for 5 years. Using the money only to travel around Asia and Africa, filming along the way, of course. A million adventures followed, but this text box is only so big.
Starting uni as a rookie director at 23 felt natural, I had learnt a lot. Living multiple lives both authentically and vicariously. I was ready to start telling stories. I've developed an idiosyncratic mentality on humanities, religion, history and philosophy based off of observation, research and experience. Leaving me with a vibrant, cultured and empathetic approach to not only the arts, but existence in general.
Although I deal mostly in narrative, I have a varied experience in most formats of art and storytelling. Above all, I'm passionate about people, not just on set, but as collaborative individuals. So feel free to get in touch via the "Contact" page.
